Around the table
This setting is the most traditional. Around the table is where all the family you could get to come is at your house and everyone is sitting around one table and all the food is on the table and you all work as a family passing plates and serving each other. Usually each group brings one dish, most of the time the person who's hosting the event cooks it all.
This setting is sometimes used when you have way too many people over and not enough room at the table. Everyone Brings a plate and they all plan with each other so everything is there (example: Aunt Georgia brings the turkey, Mom cooks the turkey, Grandma makes the stuffing, Aunt Harriet brings her famous fudge, Uncle Joe brings the green bean casserole, everything else is made by Mom and Dad)
Then all the foods are placed on one table with some plates and utensils and everyone serves themself but someone brings grandma a plate then they walk around and talk to each other or sit somewhere they can find and eat and basically everyone is just walking up to whoever they want to talk to and talking to them. And sometimes all the food is bite size little appetizers so you can just pick it up and eat it and walk around without holding a whole plate.
A loner dinner is basically going to Cracker Barrel for thanksgiving with maybe one special person. If not cracker barrel it will be going to the deli and getting some sliced ham and then eating the sliced ham with some mashed potatoes from the box and maybe some green beans from the can. And worst of all is ordering a pepperoni pizza because nobody invited you to Thanksgiving.
